Hi Jitendra,

Thanks again for your time and help.

About displays, I had a siingle DVI screen plugged to the HDMI port with an HDMI to DVI cable: this is an old 22" Samsung Syncmaster 1680x1050 (that's actually dying but still functionnal - I'm using it now): my display problems come as the X server wrongly detects two screens. This is not the with other machines: i did at test this morning with the Asus 1025C netbook I'm using now, which has three displays: LVDS, VGA and HDMI. Screens are correctly detected only if present. Anyway, when the machine is up again, I at least now have a way to get rid of that particular issue using "xrandr".

The full machine setting when running the tests are (I disconnected all SATA and USB cables): i3 3220T CPU , Crucial m4 mSATA SSD (I can remove that one also if needed). The only connections to the motherboard are the power and power led cables. RAM is 2x4Go Kingston HyperX PnP PC1600 with part number KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G. The test ran at the shop was done with a single 4Go Kingston PC1333 stick whose part number is KVR1333D3S9/4G.

I ran the tests you advised me, with:

1) no memory at all

2) one of my own Kingston HyperX memory stick

3) the other Kingston HyperX memory stick

In every case, the beep patterns was the one you described, repeating itself until power off, which if I follow you correctly, means both sticks are faulty.

I'd rather that was the case, as I'll have no need to play with heatpipes, thermal paste, etc. to get the machine back to work. But I'm quite puzzled because the test at the shop also exhibited the same beep pattern with a third stick. There"s unfortunately no way I could test my own sticks with another computer.

I know almost nothing about hardware (I used to work on software and system, network and security management): could it be that the motherboard doesn't detect RAM even if it is present anymore? or that the memory ports on the motherboards are damaged?

Regards,

Frédéric

Hi Jacob,

Well you already know that its Memory error. So do some test by yourself. Use only single (one) Memory. Do not connect any other device. See if its giving you display. If its works then check other 3 RAM's one by one.

Also check the BIOS version you are using. If it isn't latest. Flash the latest one.

J.Bisht

Hi Andy,

Hmm .. i am not sure if it helps. But you can change the connection speed from Device Manager.

Go to Device Manager--> Network option --> right the click the option inside it. Here you have to find the option that changes link speed.

J.Bisht

Got intel dz77ga-70k 0063bios motherbord and asus gtx670dc2t graphic card

After carefully config and OS install/drivers, image from Graphic card start blinking, i almost think it is problem in my new card, but after disabling in bios that crappy technology >  intel_dynamic_power_technology everything go ok

I see many people had problems with that "feature" hardware/linux etc

Driver update fails; "an error occurred while registering one or more components"

"Hello, I have a Lenovo X301 laptop running Windows 7.  I am trying to update the driver for my Intel graphics card.  I went to Intel's site and it recommended an update for the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset.  I download it and try to run it but receive this error:  "An error occurred while registering one or more components. Setup will exit."  The program then closes.

I should also note that the reason I would like to update the driver is that I have just purchased an external monitor that has a max resolution of 2560 x 1440, and I was hoping that the new driver would permit me to get to this resolution.

Thanks for any help you can provide about how to update the driver successfully.

This cannot possibly be the correct reply with regards to
the specs given on the XEON E5-1660. It clearly states that it is REV 3.0,
supporting PCIe 3.0X16 and then the Asus P(X79 WS (work station) clearly
indicates that the Xeon E5-1660 is a compatible CPU for this motherboard.

So the Asus advertisement that the board supports PCIe3.0
X16 as long as the two components, being the CPU and GPU, are both supportive
of PCIe 3.0, then I should be able to purchase the Asus X79 WS motherboard and
put my Xeon E5-1660 in it and should have my Evga GTX 680 FTW+ running at the
advertised speed of 3.0 x 16.

If I am being told that this is NOT POSSIBLE then why are
these motherboard manufactures selling any X79 motherboards at all? It appears
to have been a total waste of a generation and no one should have jumped on
board this “impossible to qualify” set of components.

Intel , not only did you have the final say on the certain
failure of an advertising promise made by motherboard companies, but you also
provided the very chipset that supposedly does give the motherboards the “readiness”
to support PCIe 3.0.

First you promise a Sandy Bridge E that in the closing hours
is stripped of Native USB 3.0, the expected number of Intel Sata III ports
based on the X79 chipset and not some “tossed in fix” so as to not render the
board a complete embarrassment, and the final blow was you found yourselves
faced with the decision of holding off the release of the CPU until the Rev 3.0
support was  “fixed”, and you chose to let the motherboard makers make promises

that Intel wouldn’t allow them to keep, and you chose to let individual customers to

have hope that you certainly wouldn’t leave them abandoned, and you prematurely

released a failure of a processor.

Intel hedged its bets knowing that companies like Evga would
make great improvements in Video Cards that even though they were remarkably
better, they still would not saturate a 2.0 X 16 PCIe slot. That would be
enough to pull the gamer’s and enthusiast’s attention away from the ethical,
moral and possibly legal failures and it bought you time; more time than I ever
thought possible

But I didn’t build. I waited because I didn’t want to have
to sell a used 3930K and a used Asus X79 Pro.

And then the XEON showed up and Asus Work Station users
claim they are getting the promised 3.0 PCIe X16. You see I also purchased a
Rev 3.0 $1,200 Areca 1882 ix12 4GB Raid Controller Card that needs an X8 PCIe
3.0.  Tell me and don’t beat around the
bush. I am running out of time.

Will this TRIO of the Asus P9X79 WS + Evga GTX 680 FTW+ 4GB
+ Intel XEON E5-1660 Rev 3.0  make me
even more angry because now I have 2 CPU”S to return to Intel and 2
Motherboards to return to Asus. I am not carrying this corporate failure on my
little shoulders and how could a Corporation as powerful and wealthy as Intel
to even suggest such a thing- that is what is most disturbing.

It is WRONG to sell a motherboard with PCIe 3.0 promises,
but the second leg of that promises is physically impossible because Intel
won't provide it. I am going to ask Asus to take back my X79 PRO that has sat
unused for 4 months waiting for the go ahead to have 3.0. It isn't coming is it?

I also will be sending my 3930k which was purchased to go
with the Asus X79 PRO as there were NO OTHER OPTIONS, yet it stripped me of my
right to meet the motherboard maker's requirement to have PCIe 3.0 capability.

This generation of CPUs’ was a huge error on the part of Intel, and in
principle I will not stop until I am on the front page of the Wall Street Journal.
I have done it once before with another company and it seems that it is time to
rally the troops.

Ebombzor/Need4Speed,

I'd like to keep the topic for this thread limited to BSOD issues with the 520.  Would you mind starting a new thread for the issue of your system hanging for a short period after running optimizer?

Thanks.

Hi Homecomputerdoctor,

Thanks for the heads up on the FAQ being out of date.  I'll make time to work on it.

For you firmware update problem, please try the bootable firmware update tool located here:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3308&DwnldID=18363&ProductFamily=Solid-State+Drives+and+Caching&ProductLine=Intel%c2%ae+High+Performance+Solid-State+Drive&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+X25-M+Solid-State+Drive%2c+120GB+SATA+II+2.5in%2c+MLC%2c+High+Performance%2c+34nm&lang=eng

Be sure to back up your data before updating the firmware!

The toolbox issues may indeed be due to the fact that you have an AMD chipset.  Other users have had a better experience by changing to the Microsoft(r) AHCI driver or by disabling the Volume Shadowcopy Service.

We are actively working to identify compatibility issues AMD based systems but there may be limits on how much we can fix.  I'll keep you posted.

Re: Chipsets Use Drivers and Firmware?

Good evening .. please excuse me being redundant,  but I'm trying to understand if the X58 chipset uses firmware according to my simple  definition of firmware ,,, I didn't see the answer that can help me in the replies above ..

"They were not talking about a driver program, but a firmware update for a chipset."

I simplistically consider "firmware" as code that doesn't travel  .. ie. not reliant on the existing storage container (drive) to continue to operate.

  Not to argue semantics ..

Do I have to reload the X58 chipset update on my Asus Rampage genie IIl motherboard with a X58 chipset  when I pull the drive and install a new drive with a clean install OS?

UX31A WiDi stopped working after DHD-131 firmware update

Since moving to Windows 8 I lost the ability to use WiDi. Following all instructions I could find, nothing would work. With the latest drivers and software it would get to the point of installing the device driver (when connecting to the adapter) and after doing nothing for a few minutes, would quit with no error message being shown. After much trial and error I found a basic solution (continue reading Intel support, the problem isn't solved),

1) Install the old Windows 7 ProSet driver, 15.3.1_s64 (the large download).

2) Install an old version of WiDi, 3.1.29.0

3) Downgrade/reset the firmware on your adapter (my D-Link DHD-131 says it came with 2.1.15.0). Follow this link if you have the same adapter: Re: Intel WiDi "There are no adapters detected."

This will get you basic WiDi functionality but whatever you do, don't upgrade the firmware (it breaks everything and can't detect the adapter; though I have yet to check if updating the wireless software and WiDi software without a firmware update will work).

Now Intel, having to use 3 outdated pieces of software that I had to find on my own is unacceptable. I want to use the Windows 8 wireless driver, the newest WiDi software and latest firmware (which your WiDi software recommends upgrading to, nevermind that it breaks everything). Help me find a solution to get this feature which I shelled out $100 for to work properly for the first time in 6 months.

Go into the BIOS setup and make sure the PS/2 port is enabled.  I think it's under the peripheral tab, but I'm not positive.  The setting is there somewhere.

Also, if your OmniKey has the built-in macro function make sure that is disabled (or clear any existing macros that may be in memory).

Hi - I am another person experiencing a variation of this 3 beep memory error.  I'd like to share my situation in case it helps anyone resolve their problems.

I have 2 sticks of Crucial Ballistix BLT2KIT8G3D1608DT1TX0 8GB 1600 RAM and had been running on BIOS 94 without problems for 2 months at the default 1333MHz.  I decided to boost the speed up to 1600MHz (I paid for it, right?) and almost immediately started getting the 3 beeps on boot.

I upgraded to BIOS 98 but still got the beeps.  The problem almost never happened when doing a Windows restart but booting from hibernate or shutdown after a couple of hours would result in the beeps 1 time out of 4.  The most reliable method of getting out of the 3 beep loop was to turn off the power supply and remove the 2nd RAM stick.  I could then make it into BIOS.

I get the most successful boots at 1600 if I use the XMP profile.  I have had zero successful boots using Jim's trick of carefully moving the memory speed slider (even after an intermediate boot at all default BIOS settings).  I have been afraid to use Rodrigo's 1.6V Memory +1.0V System Agent voltages for fear of damaging the memory but I may get there eventually.  Oh, and even going back to 1333Mhz now results in the occasional 3 beep error after a cold start.

What has been working for me (5 cold restarts now) is to run the RAM in single channel mode by putting both sticks in channel A (DIMM 3 + DIMM 1).  I thought to try this after reading of the people who can run successfully with 1 or 3 sticks but not 2 or 4.

I have been in e-mail correspondence with Intel customer support (even pointing them to this thread) and they are offering to replace the board but I have little hope a new board will solve the problem.

wyrmbait, have you heard anything new on your problem escalation?
