I have the same problem with a Zotac ZBox ID82 with Plex Media Center playing files in direct play mode.
I have to sue direct play so that subtitles show up for video files that have them, transcoding seems to strip the subtitles out.

It doesn't appear to be bottle-necking anywhere other than the processor with DXVA2 off, as network bandwidth for wired and wireless networks seem to be well below required amounts. With DXVA2 enabled, I have extreme jittery/ghosting and video glitches
I only have problems with software decoding not being able to keep up on certain files, namely mkvs at 1080.
My gaming desktop (full i7 3rd gen) cannot keep up without DXVA turned on either, but it has a full AMD video card to help.
